Emanuel Anastos, Manny, was born and raised in Long Island, New York. He attended public school and graduated from Huntington High School where he found his passion for community. This passion drove him to Carleton College in Minnesota where he studied Philosophy.
Emanuel’s studies taught him how to use his thoughts in a way to best achieve the outcomes his heart desired. Philosophy was central in guiding his adventure, which led him to pursue a life in the more remote regions of Minnesota where natural resources are more abundant. Today, Emanuel is lucky enough to call the Lake Vermilion Reservation his home. Starting with a job at the Vermilion boys and girls club, Emanuel grew his relationships and built trust with the tribes. He now serves the Bois Forte Band of Chippewa, which encompasses both Vermilion and Nett Lake reservations, and has enrolled members all throughout the country and even the world, as an Indian Child Welfare Case Manager. As an Indian Child Welfare Case Manager it is Emanuel’s mission to ensure children are placed in homes which are beneficial to their development and to their culture.

Emanuel’s time living and working within the Bois Forte Reservation has given him a perspective on life he could not have gained elsewhere. While the beauty that embodies Ojibwe tribal culture and tribal lands is one that takes more than words to describe, it is the way that the Bois Forte Band takes care of the members of its community, which includes both indigenous and non-indigenous peoples, that has made Bois Forte the perfect place for Emanuel to call home. Through its tribal government programs, the Band does all it can to provide tangible and low-cost or no-cost resources to its community, including food, healthcare, and much more. Through its members, young and old, rich and poor, and indigenous and non-indigenous, the reservation’s community looks after one another not only through frequent and daily acts of kindness, but through annual events like netting, ricing, powwows, and cultural healing where people can come together, put their differences and disputes aside, and work towards a common goal or enjoy a shared activity.

Emanuel’s experiences have shaped his vision for the future, a vision that will catch like wildfire. Emanuel believes in building a government which supports every American. Constitutional rights are to be protected, and the pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness is something everyone should feel is achievable. There are four things that must change before that dream can be achieved: healthcare, education, wages, and how we regulate and attempt to eliminate the presence of money in our politics.
Emanuel will support Universal Healthcare, so that no one has to fear a medical bill or their child getting sick. He commits to raising the minimum wage, so families have money to plan for their futures and don’t fret over groceries. He will prioritize making public and trade education accessible, as this opens avenues to higher paying jobs that can support families. Emanuel will ban private funding of campaigns, so the only way to donate to a political candidate is through a public allocation of funds which is distributed in an equal dollar amount to each U.S. citizen each election year. With these four changes to the world we live in so many more people will have the opportunity to thrive.
Emanuel has strong and clear positions on important issues: immigration, abolishing Ice, the funding of genocide in Gaza, and our government’s honesty. My strategy for winning the election will rely on connecting communities across the district and building something greater. While we are living in a very serious time that may seem overwhelming or scary, I am having a great time visiting the vibrant communities that make up district 8 and fighting for what matters to you! I am not running for corporate spending and will need your support.
